Talks (in the lecture tent) - 20mins

Doug Scott
A true legend. Doug was the first Britain to climb Mt Everest and has partaken in more expeditions to the greater ranges than virtually anybody else alive. At Cliffhanger Doug talks about the South West Face of Everest and Community Action Nepal, the charity he set up to put something back into the country he so loves.

Gaz Parry
Ex British Lead-climbing and Bouldering champion Gaz Parry has done it all in the world of rock climbing. He recently embarked on the ultimate European climbing road trip - 40 destinations in 40 days. This short lecture is an entertaining summary of the trip.

Graham Gristwood - Orienteering
Graham is a full-time orienteer who splits his time between the UK and Sweden. His goal? To become the individual World Champion. In 2008, he was a member of the Great Britain relay team which won the World Orienteering Championships.

Graham Milton
Whitewater Kayaking is most definately in Graham's blood. You'd be hard pressed to find a more enthusiastic member of the paddling community talking about the extreme sport he loves. Graham recently endured a month-long expedition of Greenland's rivers. Come along and listen to stories of his travels and ask him what mosquitoes taste like...

Rob Pilling - Outdoor Travel - Losing The Transport Guilt
A lot of us like being outside, enjoy wild places and want the environment to stay the way it is. For many of us though, cars and jets provide a vital escape from the trials of everyday life. Unfortunately our reliance on these vehicles causes environmental harm. Rob Pilling from Sheffield Renewables will explore whether it is possible to enjoy the outdoors without building up transport guilt.

Workshops (sign up with exhibiting artist) - 30mins

Adam Long: Composition
Adam will be running two half-hour workshops concentrating on composition - what it is, why its important and how to improve your technique. He'll split the time between discussion and practical exercises, and there will be opportunity for constructive analysis of your shots.

Doug Blane: Shooting eXtreme Sports Photography
Learn techniques to capture fast extreme sports, freeze the action by using fast shutter speeds and narrow depth of field; create artistic images using slow shutter speeds and panning with the action. All will be based on the thirds rule of composition so that the action flows into the pictures.

Fran Halsall: Using Natural Light
An informal introduction to using your camera in natural lighting. Attendees will be invited to ask questions as Fran demystifies common photographic problems.

Simon Wright
Simon explores the pros & cons of oil paints versus acrylics.

Films (in lecture tent)

Best Of ShAFF 1
Seasons (25 mins)

Seasons follows seven of the world's best mountain bikers through the course of 4 seasons of the year. One of the best mountain bike films ever made. Features Sheffield legend Steve Peat.

Best Of Shaff 2
Grit Kids (22mins)

The teenage brother and sister team, Pete and Katy Whittaker, burst onto the climbing scene with a series of spectacular ascents on grit. In a frenzy of climbing they each stack up numerous major ascents; then one evening after school, with the whole family assembled to watch, Pete makes the terrifying first ascent of 'Dynamics Of Change', a truly iconic line at Burbage South.

Films For Kids
Blue Peter (10mins)

Blue Peter presenters head into the heart of an Alaskan glacier via a moulin, an under-ice cave, waterfall and channel. Shiveringly good photography of a dangerous environment.

Daily Strips (5mins)
Created at the Nissan Outdoor Games in Chamonix, this 5-minute film features five extreme sports and was made in five days. A great concept and very well put together.

Paws On The Moors (5mins)
A very funny animated film dedicated to helping you and your dog enjoy the moorlands to their full potential, whilst helping to protect this special landscape, its wildlife and livestock.

Posing Productions Compilation (20mins)
A selection of new footage from multi-award winning filmmaker and photographer Alastair Lee, including Lucy Creamer on Slab & Crack (Curbar), Jordan Buys on Widdop Wall (Widdop) and some teasers from his forthcoming DVD ‘The Asgard Project' with Leo Houlding.

Madagascar Film (38mins)
Madagascar - a simply unvbelievable place, packed with exotic locations, flaura and fauna - is captured beautifully by this French climbing expedition. A real treat.

Thanks very much to the film makers for letting us show these films at Cliffhanger. For more information on most of them please visit www.shaff.co.uk
