Press Event Success Despite Heavy Rain!

Press Event Success Despite Heavy Rain!

Last night saw a very lively press event take place in the big top marquee at Millhouses Park. Heavy rain which saw flooding in parts of the city made virtually everybody late, and kept some people from coming at all, but a large crowd of sponsors, organisers and members of the press gathered for an informal battle on the newly completed Dyno Wall. Hallam FM and Lookers Ford, both local sponsors of this year's event, sent teams to pit their skills against reigning British Bouldering Champion Ned Fehally, and professional climber Leah Crane of The Climbing Works, both of Sheffield. There were also members of South Yorkshire Orienteers, Sheffield Parkour and The House Skate Park on site and taking part.

Dyno climbing is often described as the high jump of rock climbing, where climbers launch themselves from one large hand hold to another, completely airborn for a split second whilst between the two. The teams from Hallam FM and Lookers Ford gamely struggled with the longer jumps, but slowly got to grips with the technique required, whilst Ned and Leah demonstrated some more impressive distances (2.20m for Ned). Last week the world record was broken at the Climbing World Championships in China by Flying Dutchman Nicky De Leuuw who jumped an incredible 2.90m!

There will be an Open Dyno competition at Cliffhanger at the weekend with £1,000 up for grabs over the two days. Everyone is welcome to have a go.
